Around the midpoint of the season, the five Captains of the team came together to discuss the positive points of the season and make goals for improvement for the second half. At this point, Thomas Nelson Baseball has a record of 3-17. Although the record doesn’t show it, there are several key positives and memorable moments from the season so far.
The three wins are obviously great moments of the season. One of those wins was highlighted by a comeback victory at Doss. The Generals got down early and were trailing 10-3 in the third inning when the game was postponed. When they returned later that week, the team was determined to fight back. With key hits from James Rucker, Kendall Roller, Tate Crepps, and Wyatt Brown, along with excellent pitching, the team was able to manufacture a come-from-behind victory with a score of 18-16. During spring break, the team made a trip to Jim Patterson Stadium to watch the Louisville Cardinals play Wake Forest. This was a great time to watch two of the nation’s top teams play baseball and bond as a team.
Of course, there are obvious areas of growth for the team traveling forward. For success, it is crucial to cut down on errors and put the ball in play more. This will improve as the team builds more chemistry with one another and focuses on having quality practice time everyday.
With a winning mindset, the second half of the season should look bright. Thomas Nelson plays Bardstown this week to conclude district play. They will then wrap up the season with 11 games before the district tournament.
